Its all about permissions, and domain, simple file sharing etc. 

Try turning on Simple file sharing and
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\CURRENTCONTROLSET\LSA  Change the restrictanonymous
to a 0 if it is a 1 or 2; there is also an option for this in the
Security Policy.

f you can ping both computers, have file and print sharing enabled,
then it is most likely a file sharing issue.

Check the Windows XP SP2 Firewall.

Guest account:  net user guest /active:yes

For printing, get an ethernet print server, much easier.
